General Web Design Questions
How long does it take to build a website?
Generally, a typical 8-10-page brochure-style website takes 8-12 weeks from outline to final launch. This depends on the scope of work and the level of client contributions and their availability. We have certainly done them quicker.
How much does a website cost?
Our fees vary based on numerous factors, including the scope of work, the amount of client contributions, and the availability of assets like photos, proper logo/graphics files, and more. Since every website is unique, we do not have package pricing. Every website gets a customized estimate. If you are an early stage/start-up business or nonprofit, ask us about special rates.
Will my website work on mobile devices?
Yes. Your website will be configured to display properly on desktop, tablets, and smartphones. This is what we call “responsive design.”
Will my website be SEO-friendly?
Yes. While we are not an SEO firm, we will follow best SEO practices when building your website and optimize it for speed. If you need an SEO marketing plan, we have colleagues we can recommend.
What platform do you build websites on?
We build exclusively on the WordPress platform. WordPress is the most-popular platform on Earth, open-source (unlike proprietary DIY platforms), and transferrable.
Will I own my website?
Yes, your website will be 100% yours. It will reside on your own hosting account. You will have full administrative access to your website. We claim no ownership.
Can I edit the website myself after launch?
Absolutely, as long as you know how to use WordPress and the theme builder used to build the website.
Do you provide training?
We can provide training for basic content edits. Please understand that web design and development requires a skill set that takes years to establish in order to follow best practices and ensure proper optimization.
Can you help me scale my website as my business grows?
We would love to.
What happens if I decide to move to another designer later?
No problem. We will grant them full access and allow you to move on. However, you will need to purchase your own user license for the website theme builder used to build the website.
Design & Development Process
What is your design process?
Our process is simple, but efficient. We begin a site map and B&W wireframe layouts of your primary pages, along with a content/messaging outline. Then we follow with color static (PDF) designs of your home page and primary pages. Once a design is approved, we move to build-out phase.
How many design revisions are included?
We expect a reasonable number of revisions and won’t go to build-out phase until you approve a design. There’s no “take it or leave it.”
Do you write the website content, or do I need to provide it?
You can provide the content, or we can write it entirely. If you are in a specialized industry, we can collaborate on the messaging where you essentially bake the cake and we add the icing.
Do you provide images, or should I supply my own?
You can furnish your own images, provided they meet our specifications. If needed, we can also arrange and direct original photography or videography. In some cases, we might use stock photos. Or a combination of all.
Functionality & Features
Can you build an online store (eCommerce)?
We do not build E-commerce websites. However, your website can link to an external E-commerce platform.
Will my website integrate with social media?
Your website can have social share links and links to your social media pages. We can also add a social media feed to your website.
Can you add booking or appointment scheduling features?
Your website can link to external third-party platforms offering those services. But we do not build booking websites.
Will my site include contact forms?
Yes.
Can you integrate third-party tools (CRM, email marketing, etc.)?
CRM and e-mail marketing contact forms can likely be embedded, but we do not offer full integration.
Pricing & Payments
How do you price your web design services?
Since every website is different, we do not offer package pricing. Every website gets a custom-tailored estimate.
Do you require a deposit?
We require a 50% deposit to start the project and invoice for the balance at completion.
Are there ongoing monthly costs?
We offer a very affordable Annual Website Maintenance Plan that includes simple content updates, security and feature updates on three levels, as well as basic troubleshooting (excluding any incurred third-party fees).
What additional costs should I expect (hosting, domain, plugins)?
A domain typically costs $15-20 per year. However, primary domains can be very pricey. Some plugins might be required for special features on your website. Some are free, some have annual license fees. We have a preferred WordPress-optimized host and are happy to share information.
